The Unlock Series

These tutorials were created as straight forward "tips and tricks" featuring talented artists and studios. I spent a majority of time at Adobe working on the storyboards for these tutorial videos and step by step animations on the pages. I worked closely with creative director, Derik Green, to collaborate with these artists and share their knowledge with the Adobe audience.

We planned every step throughout the full process to always stay ahead of deadlines. From reaching out to artists to working with our animation vendor (Very True Story), communication between all parties was crucial. I also learned a lot just by having to pretend to be each artist in order to help create their tutorials.

Check out the artists we got to work with below!

Lincoln Design Co

Lincoln Design Co. is a brand design agency specializing in sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and the outdoors. We asked them to try out Adobe Express's new feature, resizing artwork for socials. They used the opportunity to showcase the stunning artwork they created for their design book. We helped guide them through the tool and how they can also incorporate it into their workflow.

Naydine Bosman

Naydine Bosman is a 3D illustrator based in the Netherlands. She creates cute and memorable characters using simple shapes and energetic poses. We asked her to try out Illustrator's new 3D graphics tool, along with After Effects's 3D tool, to create a looping animation. We absolutely loved the outcome as she was open to exploring new techniques to enhance her workflow.

Carlos Jiménez

Carlos Jiménez Varela is a photo manipulating master who has worked with famous brands like Puma. We asked him to try out Photoshop's new tool called generative expand. He created this dynamic composition using his carefully crafted scaling technique. This feature worked well with his style of editing, and he was able to unlock new processes with the tool for us too! What a legend.

Setta Studio

Tim Saccenti and Dina Chang are filmmakers, photographers, and visual artists who founded Setta Studio. We asked them to create a unique video using Premiere Pro's new feature: text-based editing. They created a hypnotic visual piece that plays behind an audible poem. I still use this awesome feature quite often as it saves a ton of time on cutting and finding certain voiceover lines in Premiere Pro.

Outcome

Working on these series of tutorials was a huge highlight of my career. The chance to collaborate with talented and technical artists was inspiring and helpful. Not only did we get to teach them new shortcuts and tricks, but they taught us what makes their techniques unique and creative. These artists really think outside of the box and it's always refreshing to see what they bring to the table. As a passionate tutorial maker, this was a dream come true.
